The Lung and Sleep Center of North Texas is committed to delivering advanced and effective treatment options for sleep apnea. We are excited to provide Inspire therapy, an innovative alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment for managing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with no mask required.
Inspire therapy offers a groundbreaking approach to treating OSA, intended to provide relief for individuals who are unable to benefit from CPAP therapy. It is an easy to use, remote controlled, implantable system that targets the root cause of sleep apnea by stimulating the hypoglossal nerve, which controls the tongue and other key airway muscles.
Inspire therapy involves a three-component system: a small generator device, a breathing sensor, and a stimulation cuff. The generator is implanted under the skin in the upper chest area, and it generates and delivers mild electrical impulses. The breathing sensor detects breathing patterns, while the stimulation cuff delivers gentle impulses to the hypoglossal nerve during sleep. These impulses move the tongue and other muscles, opening the airway and allowing for normal breathing throughout the night. To use Inspire, simply turn on the system using a handheld remote before sleeping, and use the same remote to turn it off after waking up.
